Walnut wood is a sought-after noble wood, whose use is limited to premium items; characterized by its dynamic firmness and by its low tendency to splinter.

Immature walnuts and the foliage harvested in early summer rank amongst the vitamin C-rich parts of all plants in Central Europe!

The walnut played an important role during Roman weddings. The groom threw them among guests and spectators (sparge, marite, nuces : spread, my husband, the nuts). A bright sound at their impact was to predict a happy marriage like the one of Jupiter (counterpart to the mythical Greek Zeus) and Juno (the Roman goddess of marriage).

What is particularly interesting in connection with the TELEOIS-Monolith is the fact that the soil is usually not covered under walnut trees. The tree emits retardants preventing other plants thrive in competition for nutrients. The leaves of the walnut tree are particularly rich in tannin, will degrade slower than other leaves and are shunned by most insects. Nut trees are also credited with the ability to shoo flies, that’s why this tree has often be planted in farms (next to the dung heap).
